This unique species of honey comes from New Zealand. Original honey is produced by bees from the nectar of manuka bushes growing in pristine and uncontaminated areas. Manuka is also called the tree of life. It has long been considered a natural source of antibacterial, immunomodulatory substances that have a beneficial effect on the entire human body.
Manuka honey tastes similar to our phacelia, and in terms of chemistry to honeydew. However, it has much richer properties. Manuka honey owes its uniqueness to the ingredient methylgloxal (MGO). In addition, manuka honey is a source of flavonoids and phenolic compounds and antioxidants.
Thanks to MGO, leptozine and phenolic acids present in manuka honey, it has been found to have antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and wound healing stimulating properties. Despite the discovery of these substances, the mechanism of action of honey is still unknown. Compared to Polish honeys, manuka honey is characterized by greater antioxidant capacity. Only honeydew honey has similar properties.
