A few words about rapeseed

Surely you associate the spring view of huge expanses of fields covered with a yellow quilt of rapeseed. In Poland, this landscape is well known, because our country is the eighth largest producer of it in the world. In the food industry, rapeseed is used m.in for the production of edible oils, and then – margarines and other kitchen fats. Rapeseed oil is also used to make biofuel for diesel engines, and post-extraction meal, obtained after oil extrusion, is a valuable animal feed. Rapeseed is also a melliferous plant, which is a rich source of nectar and pollen for bees. The flowering time of rapeseed is about three weeks, usually falling on the period of the turn of April and May.

How to recognize rapeseed honey?

In a liquid state, rapeseed honey is characterized by a subtle straw color (sometimes it is almost colorless) with a delicate shade of green, depending on the plants from which the bees collected nectar. It contains relatively little water (less than 20%), and has more simple sugar glucose than fructose, so it is the fastest crystallizing of all honeys; it happens that the crystallized form is obtained already from the hive, but usually crystallizes within a few days of harvesting. Then its color changes to white or gray-cream. Regardless of whether honey is in the form of a patoka or krupca, its smell is rather weak, although it unequivocally suggests its rapeseed origin. Interestingly, it can be easily felt even two years after harvesting, even if it is used as an ingredient in mead. The delicate appearance and smell is complemented by an equally delicate taste. In its sweetness, rapeseed honey is somewhat bland, with a slightly perceptible bitterness that gives it expressiveness.

Honeys of our production are a guarantee of great taste and the highest quality.
