The company's name refers to the biblical patriarch Methusalah, father of Noah, who according to the Old Testament lived as long as 969 years. The brand was founded in 1872, but the origins of this rum go back to 1892, when two brothers who emigrated from Spain, Benjamin and Eduardo Camp, together with their friend Evaristo Alvarez, started the production of this drink in Cuba in a town called, Santiego de Cuba. In the 1940s, Matusalem rum production accounted for nearly 50% of the rum produced in the country. In 1960, the owners of Matusalem & Co. were forced to leave Cuba due to the Cuban Revolution led by Fidel Castro. The Dominican Republic was chosen as the company's new location, where production was completely relocated in the 1990s.
Matusalem rum is produced using a unique method called Solera, the secrets of which have been passed down from generation to generation. In this method, the maturation of the distillates and their blending is based on rarely used techniques used in the production of sherry, brandy and cognac.

Aroma: nutty with hints of confectionery, perceptible notes of fresh honey, almonds with touches of magnolia. Caramel, toffee and mango in the background with nuances of exotic wood and cedar, with hints of white chocolate and almonds.
Taste: refined, elegant and creamy, with liquorice, roasted nuts/ almonds in the background, very complex with a side sensation of fresh nuts.
