The whisky's name refers to the tiny farming region in the north of the island of Islay, where the Scarabus distillery operated in 1817/1818. Hunter Laing Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky - Scarabus makes its market debut in 2019, with the distillery newly opened in April by Hunter Laing & Co. with Jim McEwan as master distiller. The whisky comes from an undisclosed distillery located on the island of Islay and is bottled at 46% alcohol.
In the aroma, smoke and peat play the first fiddle, to be followed by aromas of wet leather, biscuit and vanilla. The taste remains smoky and peaty with accents of citrus, vanilla, tobacco and salt. The finish is smoky with a hint of sea saltiness. It was bottled at 46% alcohol, without cold filtration and with a natural colour. The whisky was unveiled in 2019 during the Feis ile 2019 celebrations.
