The whisky's name refers to the tiny farming region in the north of the island of Islay, where the Scarabus distillery operated in 1817/1818. Scarabus is a single malt whisky brand owned by independent distributor Hunter Laing. The producer does not disclose the exact origin of Scarabus but assures us that it comes from a distillery on the Isle of Islay.
The Batch Strength edition is similar to the basic version, but is even more intense in both taste and aroma. The aroma is dominated by iodine, smoke, peat, oysters, cucumbers, grilled vegetables, followed by aromas of wet leather, seaweed, biscuits and vanilla. The taste is very intense, smoky and peaty with accents of citrus, vanilla, tobacco and olives. Smoky finish with a hint of sea saltiness. Free of artificial colours and unfiltered cold.
